Frequently Asked Questions

On this page you will find answers to your most asked questions.

Q.  Where can I purchase hadley Pottery in my area?

A.  Check out our retailer list for a shop in your area.  If there is no one in your area, e-mail or call the factory toll free, 1-866-584-2171, to place a direct order or obtain our mail order catalog.

Q.  How do I become a Hadley retailer?

A.  Hadley will always attempt to have exclusive retailers in specific areas.  Call toll-free, 1-866-584-2171 for information about selling ware in your store.

Q.  May I place a special order?

A.  Yes.  Your retailer will be glad to assist you in placing orders with names and dates and your choice of our standard scenes.  Hadley will personalize plates, mugs, bowls, round platters, coasters and name plates. Especially popular are our child sets, birth plates, anniversary and wedding plates, bridal coasters and pet dishes. Special scenes must be approved by the factory.

Q.  What is the value of older Hadley ware?

A.  It is very difficult to price old Hadley ware since, with the exception of the "Brown Fleck" pattern, all Hadley ware is still produced.  As a guide, start with the current retail price of the ware and then consider the condition of the piece.

Q.  Is it an original Mary Alice Hadley piece?

A.  Mary Alice Hadley created most of our designs and hired painters to reproduce them.  Most of the pieces she painted were one of a kind.  If the item is a dinnerware piece such as a plate or mug, chances are it was not painted by Mrs. Hadley.

Q.  Where is the factory and how do I get to it?

A.  The factory is located in Louisville, Kentucky, near the Ohio River.  There are directions and a map on this web site.  (See Map selection on the left)

Q.  May I tour the factory?

A.  Yes.  The factory tour is at 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  For comfort reasons the factory tour is canceled in the summer if the temperature reaches above 85 degrees.

Q.  What are the factory sales floor hours?

A.  The factory sales floor is open 8:30 to 5:00 EST, Monday through Friday.  Saturday we are open 9:00 to 1:00 EST.  Saturday hours are extended to 5:00 p.m. from the second week of November until Christmas. We are closed Sunday.

Q.  May I put Hadley Pottery in the microwave?

A.  Hadley Pottery is oven and microwave usable with care.  Like all stoneware it is not microwave, oven or people proof.  Stoneware is very sensitive to thermal shock.  It needs to be gradually brought up to heat and slow cooled to prevent fracture.  It should not be placed over a flame or directly on a heating element.

Q.  Should I put Hadley Pottery in the dishwasher?

A.  Yes.  The heat from the dishwasher will not hurt it.  It is best to allow some cooling before removing.  Also, pieces should be loaded in the dishwasher in such a manner that they cannot come in contact with each other during the entire dishwasher cycle.
